Rolex's original Explorer timepiece has now been joined by a larger 39mm version. Though only a 3mm difference its a huge step for the watch after only being available at 36mm for decades. Perhaps
following the trend of larger and larger case sizes for luxury watches,
this may be a smart move for the brand and could bring back some
potential customers who are looking for a more visually impressive
timepiece.
The
39mm Rolex Explorer has a case and bracelet crafted from 904L stainless
steel and still features the classic smooth polished bezel. The black dial is protected by a flat sapphire crystal with slightly raised edge. The
placement of the Explorer name has been moved on the larger version to
sit above the Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified writing at
the bottom of the dial. The new Explorer is powered by a mechanical movement Caliber 3132 designed and manufactured by Rolex. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, and has a power reserve of up to 48 hours. The Rolex Explorer 39mm watch is Water resistance to 100 meters.
